Roddy Macdougall
Roddy is the founder of the Facebook group Skye and Lochalsh Memories which he started in 2017. Roddy’s family has been on Skye since the 1940s, with his Uncle Alexander being manager of Talisker Distillery and after he retired, his son Lachlan took over as manager. In 2013 Roddy retired after being a professional HGV driver for many years. He has great knowledge of the Skye and Lochalsh area and the broader Highland area. He has earned the reputation as “off grid Roddy” when necessary: visiting little townships where roads are single track and show the true nature of Skye crofting and its culture.
Steve Taylor
Steve is a native Highlander who has lived on the Isle of Skye for over 30 years. His background in the Police Service has taken him to every corner of the island. Steve is an experienced driver-guide on Skye and has been driving with Skye Luxury Tours since 2018.
He also runs Isle of Skye Photography, a business offering professional photography services, so knows some of Skye’s more secret beauty spots and is able to give great advise to those looking to find the perfect holiday photo!
Steve spends much of his spare time researching and writing books and articles about local history.
Katie MacDonald
As well as being one of our guides, Katie MacDonald is a barber, hairdresser and musician who is a proud local of Glenelg. She loves Scottish traditional music, culture, walking and painting.
Her favourite spots in Skye are Neist Point which enjoys beautiful views over the Minch to the Outer Hebrides and the Jurassic-looking Talisker Bay. She loves to take people all over the island and her favourite trip is taking people on the famous Glenelg-Skye Ferry – the last remaining turntable ferry of its kind in the world that crosses an ancient cattle droving route to the Isle of Skye. Katie’s speciality knowledge is in Highland culture, Scottish music, crofting and the Lochalsh and South Skye area. She loves to travel anywhere from our own Hebrides with their world renouned beaches to a camping touring trip round France to Australia.
